The Dakar Biennale has shown its hand. At the Museum of Black Civilisations, artistic director Morad Montazami presented the official selection for the 16th edition of Dak'Art, which runs from 19 November to 19 December 2026.

The theme is "(Anti)fragilité : arts de la réparation et stratégies du contrecoup" — an invitation to read fragility not as weakness but as a source of resistance, repair and invention.

According to Senegal's national news agency APS, 75 participants were chosen from around 900 applications: 54 visual artists and 21 designers, from more than 20 countries across Africa, Europe and the Americas. Eleven Senegalese visual artists and three Senegalese designers are among them.

The art magazine Diptyk notes that the list leans towards mid-career and established figures, including Benin's Georges Adéagbo, rather than emerging names, and that it gives space to scenes often left out of international circuits, from Cape Verde and Madagascar to Réunion and Suriname.

The main exhibition will be held at the former Palace of Justice, and the Democratic Republic of Congo will be the guest of honour.
