Ibrahim Mahama: The Harvest Season opens at Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain, 2 place du Palais-Royal in Paris, on 22 October 2026 and runs until 28 February 2027.

Mahama is not presented alone. The exhibition brings nine associate artists and collectives into the space, among them photographers James Barnor and Zohra Opoku, painter Gideon Appah, architects including Courage Dzidula Kpodo and Feda Wardak, the Cercle d’Art des Travailleurs de Plantation Congolaise and Postbox Ghana.

The structure mirrors Mahama’s practice in Ghana, where he has founded three art centres in Tamale. According to the foundation, the show looks at the utopias of the independence era and what they mean today, following what it calls a cycle of creation — from the sowing of ideas to the transmission of expertise.

The result is a statement about how African art ecosystems work: built collectively, anchored in specific places, and now shaping the programme of a major Paris institution.
